In the first part of this series, we explained why Indoor Air Quality is such an essential health issue and went over different types of air pollution found indoors in the United States. We also explained how indoor air quality has such a profound effect on our health.
In this article, we at Delaware Heating & Air will present the different products and services we offer homeowners throughout Delaware County. We strive to help homeowners identify indoor air pollution and improve their Indoor Air Quality because it has such a significant impact on our health, well-being, energy levels and mood.
The following are some of the more popular products and services we offer:
The iWave-R
In the wake of COVID-19, the popular iWave-R is an air purification system with increasing usefulness. The iWave-R is an affordable, innovative application that we can install inside any AC system with air ducts. It focuses on outgoing air as it moves over the system’s ion generator, which is extremely effective at purifying the air. Before the air is circulated into your residence, the iWave-R kills the pathogens, viruses, bacteria, mold, and allergens in the air. It also gets rid of any other types of particles, in addition to smoke and odors. As a result, you can breathe easier knowing it provides superior indoor air quality without any byproducts.
Using one-of-a-kind technology, the iWave-R mimics the way nature purifies air. Nature uses pressure and energy to clean the air with processes such as lightning, waterfalls, and ocean waves that break up airborne molecules and result in clean and a healthy breathing environment. The main difference between nature’s process and the iWaveR’s technology is that the iWave’R does not generate the byproducts of harmful ozone gases like nature does.
The iWave-R can be used inside the air ducts of any AC system as long as it’s not larger than six tons. After it’s inside your ducts, the iWave-R is good to go. It doesn’t ever need maintenance or replacement parts and it cleans itself.
Humidifiers
Humidifiers add moisture into the air in your home, which boosts your level of humidity according to your needs. This is very helpful when the air you’re breathing has become too dry. Humidifiers are often necessary to prevent common problems caused by dry air in the cold-weather. They also prevent static electricity in your home (which is prevalent during Ohio’s winter months) and stop dry cracking in furniture and paint. Homeowners who use humidifiers find them a helpful method for promoting indoor air quality when overly dry air creates health issues. We should also note, one of the added advantages of getting one is the noticeable monthly energy savings.
Dehumidifiers
Ohio residents know how humid the air can feel during summer’s hottest months. Sometimes, when the truly hot and humid summer weather is intolerable, it’s been known to send a lot of residents back inside in search of cool shelter in their summer sanctuaries. But what if it’s too humid inside? If you have ever experienced too much moisture in the air in a hot house, and smelled that musty scent of high indoor humidity, you realize the importance of using a dehumidifier. Health officials say homeowners should try to keep a relative indoor humidity level of between 30 to 50 percent. When it gets up above 50 percent, it will make you feel uncomfortable and cause the air to be unhealthy to breathe. Moreover, high humidity levels can bog down your air conditioning system’s ability to function and make asthma and allergy symptoms worse. Meanwhile, high humidity makes the perfect environment for mold and mildew to thrive, which can give health problems to even a healthy person. Purchasing a whole-home dehumidifier is a smart way to improve the air quality in your home if you need help maintaining comfortable humidity levels. Dehumidifiers are reasonably priced investments that will go a long way in improving you and your family’s health and comfort.
Thermostats
Today’s modern thermostats are drastically different than what people used a generation ago. A far cry from the old hockey-puck-looking dial up on the wall so many people remember growing up, today’s smart thermostats look futuristic. In addition to having fancy design features and digital touchscreen displays, a homeowner can change temperature settings on one of these thermostats from anywhere by using their smartphone.
And by getting a smart thermostat, you can do a lot more than manage your HVAC systems. These thermostats allow you to control humidifiers, air purifiers, dehumidifiers, ventilation systems and almost any IAQ product. Because they continue to get smarter, most of the thermostats being sold on the market these days are smart thermostats, and many with Wi-Fi. They are intended to help you save energy by reducing energy costs and energy wasting.
Homeowners who decide on getting a thermostat upgrade are usually pleased by the improved efficiency, added convenience and improved temperature consistency throughout their home.
They save money on energy bills while enabling their HVAC system to operate at its optimal efficiency. On top of all that, the improvement to indoor air quality promotes better health and wellness to everyone in your home.
Some of the top brands of thermostats include Honeywell, Nest and Ecobee.
Upgraded Air Filters
Getting your HVAC systems’ air filters upgraded is another smart way to improve indoor air quality. However, it’s important to understand: Not all air filters were created equal.
Additionally, you should be changing your air filter frequently in order for it to be helpful.
Having said that, if you’re thinking of ways to promote your indoor air quality, you might be surprised to learn that those generic washable fiberglass air filters scarcely improve your HVAC system’s function and they do almost nothing to promote the air quality in a home. We encourage homeowners to consider an air filter that has a higher MERV rating, or upgrading to a thicker air filter. The four-inch thick air filters are far better than the cheap one-inch air filters found too often in homes.
The MERV rating (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value), rates air filters on a scale of 1 to 16, with 16 being the highest rated and thickest filter. It’s important for homeowners to understand here that the thickest ones aren’t meant for residential HVAC systems. Residential systems usually can’t use an air filter with a rating above 13 on the MERV scale. If you don’t know the MERV rating needs of your system, you should check with the system’s manufacturer or the company that installed it.
UV Lights
In the old days, the only thing homeowners could do to improve their Indoor Air Quality involved the use of air filtration, ventilation, and humidity control. Although these innovations were useful for many years, they didn’t do anything about biological threats like viruses, mold, bacteria and fungi, all of which you could describe as the deadly “dark side” of household air pollution.
In recent decades, however, it is as if someone turned on the “lights.”
The UV Lights to be exact..
Having Ultra Violet lamps installed in your home’s HVAC system will provide you with an extra level of protection from these living and ultra-hazardous indoor air pollutants. In the wake of COVID-19, UV Lights are considered particularly useful. If a homeowner is susceptible to allergens and other dangerous organic particles, investing in UV lamps goes a long way in removing these allergens, germs and other airborne bugs from your home. As the air flows under these lights, the ultra-violet rays successfully kill these pollutants, immediately neutralizing the air.
Professional Air Duct Cleaning
For those looking for ways to keep their home’s air quality safe and ensure strong and steady airflow while removing certain odors from their home, our professional air duct cleaning service is definitely worth consideration..
An HVAC system’s air ducts is responsible for all the heated and cooled air as it comes from the system and moves into all the rooms. Because of this, it is helpful to make sure your treated air comes out as clean as possible without picking anything up along the way or running into blockage. This means you should make sure your air ducts are clean and free of dirt and waste accumulation. The professional duct cleaning service we provide will reach all the way into and through your ductwork. We remove dirt, dust and grime that gets stuck inside on the walls of your air ducts. This helps to remove allergens and it clears away any unpleasant smells lingering in your home that might be coming from your ductwork. One of the main reasons this service is important is because homeowners can’t see inside of their ductwork. The stuff that builds up inside eventually finds its way out and into the air you breathe.
