DISCOVERING WORTHINGTON, OHIO

The Ohio City of Worthington is a suburb of Columbus, established as a city by the Scioto Company in September 1803, when Ohio officially became a state. The city is one of the first planned communities in the Midwest and was named after Thomas Worthington, a politician who eventually became the governor of Ohio in 1814. His term lasted four years, from 1814 to 1818. According to historical records, Worthington was highly involved in helping the Scioio Company acquire the land where Worthington resides to this day.

Building up the City of Worthington was instantaneous; by 1804, the property maps and payments were finished. Then, in January of 1805, the city had built three government facilities, including a school, a church, and a library. Finally, in 1808, the city constructed a commercial building for a local newspaper; today, that building still stands on High Street and is the oldest of its kind.

Today, many highways pass through or are positioned adjacent to Worthington. Such as SR 315, U.S. Route 23, SR 710, SR 161, I- 270, and I- 71, thus making Worthington accessible from practically anywhere in the state of Ohio. Worthington is also home to plenty of activities to take part in, such as exploring The Ohio Railway Museum, Jeffers Mound, and the Worthington Community Recreation Center.
